Damira Hammonds Obituary, Death – 19-Year-Old Aiken Woman Killed in Fiery Crash

AIKEN, S.C. — Damira Hammonds, a 19-year-old woman from Aiken, South Carolina, died Monday night after a Honda Civic left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire on Monetta Street.

According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 9:12 p.m. in the 400 block of Monetta Street.

Hammonds was identified as the driver of the Honda Civic. She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9:43 p.m.

A passenger who was also inside the vehicle was injured in the crash and transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The passenger’s current condition has not been released.

Investigation Into Fatal Crash

The circumstances that caused the Honda Civic to leave the roadway remain under investigation.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are working to determine what led to the collision and the events immediately preceding the crash.

An autopsy is expected to be scheduled later this week in Newberry as officials work to establish the official cause of Hammonds’ death.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding why the vehicle left the roadway or provided further information about the crash.
