Brian Chandler Obituary, Death – 43-Year-Old Hurricane Man Killed in Webster County UTV Crash
WEBSTER COUNTY, W.Va. — Family and friends are mourning the death of Richard Brian Chandler, a 43-year-old man from Hurricane, West Virginia, who was killed in a utility terrain vehicle crash Saturday evening in the Bergoo area of Webster County.
Chandler died alongside Maggie Driggs, 24, of Charleston, after the UTV they were riding in left the roadway and traveled approximately 75 feet over an embankment, according to the Webster County Sheriff’s Department.
UTV Crashes Down Embankment
The incident happened Saturday evening in the 6000 block of Bergoo Road.
Emergency responders were initially alerted through an automated crash notification shortly after 7:30 p.m. A 911 caller then reported that a side-by-side UTV had gone off the roadway and down an embankment.
Several emergency response and law enforcement agencies were already in the Bergoo area because of Bergoo Bash, a UTV and ATV-focused event held in support of the Webster Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
When responders reached the crash site, they determined that all three people inside the UTV had been ejected during the wreck.
Chandler and Driggs were pronounced dead at the scene. The third occupant was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released. Authorities have not released that person’s identity.
Investigation Continues
The Webster County Sheriff’s Department expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of those involved in the fatal crash and thanked the emergency responders and law enforcement personnel who assisted at the scene.
Authorities have not released additional details about what caused the UTV to leave the roadway. The investigation remains ongoing.
No further information was immediately released as officials continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
