Maggie Driggs and Richard Brian Chandler Obituary, Death – Two Killed in Webster County UTV Crash
WEBSTER COUNTY, W.Va. — Two people have died and another person was injured following a UTV crash Saturday evening in the Bergoo area of Webster County, West Virginia.
The fatal incident happened on September 5, 2026, near 6989 Bergoo Road in Webster Springs. According to the Webster County Sheriff’s Department, the Webster County 911 Center received an automated crash alert at approximately 7:27 p.m., indicating that a vehicle may have been involved in a collision in the area.
A second emergency call was received shortly afterward reporting that a side-by-side UTV had left the roadway and traveled roughly 75 feet down an embankment.
Emergency crews from the Webster Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Webster Memorial EMS and the Webster County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the scene. West Virginia State Police troopers who were already nearby for the Bergoo Bash event also responded.
The first emergency unit arrived at approximately 7:39 p.m. and found that all three people inside the UTV had been thrown from the vehicle.
Two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified them as Maggie Driggs, 24, of the Charleston, West Virginia, area, and Richard Brian Chandler, 43, of the Hurricane, West Virginia, area.
The third occupant survived the crash and was transported to Webster Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. According to authorities, that person was later released from the hospital.
The circumstances that caused the UTV to leave the roadway and travel over the embankment have not been released. The Webster County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the crash, and officials have not announced a specific cause.
Additional information may be released as investigators work to determine exactly what led to the fatal collision.
The sheriff’s department expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of Driggs and Chandler while also thanking the emergency personnel and law enforcement agencies who responded to the scene.
